Barnsley are in seventh place and have taken a decent 36 goals. They can, however, improve - but probably not significantly - as the season progresses.. Last season they finished in sixth place. They have scored a fine 34 goals but their number of expected goals (xG) is "only" 31.22. The Barnsley defence has not been solid at all – as the not very flattering 32 goals allowed well illustrate! Let's remember that Wrexham have not lost any of their last nine games and must - as a result - be sky-high in confidence! Moreover, they have taken a win in seven of their most recent nine matches. According to my sources – as well as some reports in the (football) media - they have a terrific team spirit at the moment.. This is easy to believe, of course! I want to highlight that they play better - as a team - than the list of players would suggest! Many of their players have been able to raise their level from last season. In their most recent match Wrexham beat Wigan 2-1 at home despite Wigan playing significantly better than usual.. The xG numbers were 1.93-0.74. Barnsley have won three of their last 10 games. They have, however, improved recently – winning two games in a row.. In their most recent match they beat Peterborough 3-1 on the road as pretty clear favourites on the betting market. However, the xG numbers were 1.33-1.47 so the final score is somewhat misleading.
